2019
8 decades on and still going strong!
The Company’s 80th year has been a bumper one for awards. In September, CJ Thorne & Co were the winner of the 'Best Construction Project' Award at the South East Construction Awards ceremony, for our impressive spillway project at Bayham Lake in Kent. On the same evening, at a separate event, we proudly accepted two awards at the 2019 East Sussex Business Awards: ‘Outstanding Team of the Year’ and ‘Overall Business of the Year’. Then at the Uckfield Community Awards in November, we were presented with the award entitled ‘Give Back to the Community’. Having been active in supporting the community for many years, all staff were delighted to receive recognition for this. The Company have provided the Christmas Tree for Uckfield since 1951 in addition to the lorry to transport it to its place by NatWest Bank. We provide trucks for various community groups to decorate for the Uckfield Carnival. We are always active in sponsoring such things as the Uckfield Business Awards, local charities, am-dram organisations and local sports clubs. As a local family business that has gone from strength to strength over the past 8 decades, these things are just our way of giving back, so thank you to all the Thorne employees who are a part of this vibrant team effort.

Sussex Super Growth Awards - One of the Top Ten Fastest Growing Companies in Sussex
C J Thorne & Co was this month recognised as being amongst the top 10 fastest growing companies in Sussex at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Amex Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Albion FC.
The award acknowledged the sustained growth of the Company over the last three years and MD Chris Thorne said: "As a private family-owned business with strong links to the local community, we are absolutely delighted to be in the top 10 of the Sussex Super Growth awards.
Our business is all about the strong teamwork of our loyal staff, and their commitment and expertise is what delivers complex projects successfully for our Clients.
2015
Sussex Heritage Trust Awards - Commercial Award
C J Thorne & Co this week won the prestigious Commercial Award for the Kings Road Arches Scheme in Brighton. The project involved the reconstruction of 26 arches (built circa 1880) where the walls and foundations were failing due to subsidence, with the deck suffering severe surface fragmentation. The finished construction is sympathetic with the Victorian architecture and provides a vibrant new artists’ quarter.
The Lewes & Wealden Business Awards - Large Business of the Year
The Company this month won the prestigious title of Large Business of the Year, and was commended for demonstrating exceptional performance, growth and market leadership. The award was presented to Directors Jim Fraser and Chris Thorne at a Gala Dinner attended by local MPs as well as major business leaders from throughout the region.
ACES - East Sussex Business of the Year
C J Thorne were nominated and put up against nine local companies for East Sussex Business of the Year hosted by ACES Chambers of Commerce.
C J Thorne went on to win the Award.

Uckfield Business Awards - Business of the Year
The great and the good from the local area dined out in style as 320 local business people celebrated the 2014 Uckfield Business Awards. Top prize on the night was “Business of the Year” and C J Thorne & Co was announced as the winner – a feather in the cap for the whole Company!
