Work has been completed on the £150,000 Design & Build culvert replacement project at Pook Hill for Surrey Highways (Ringway). The 1250mm diameter concrete culvert and headwall had partially collapsed under Pook Hill, and the work involved an emergency closure of the road to enable the culvert to be fully excavated to a depth of 3m and replaced back to a sound section of pipe which was in private land.
We then constructed an 1800mm diameter manhole at the connection point and a concrete sandbag headwall to retain the embankment and road, before resurfacing the road up to the junction with Prestwick Lane – a whole group operation involving J P Hunter surfacing’s new AP500 paving machine and hand lay tarmacers from Hobart Paving.
Thanks to a collaborative working relationship with both our Client and Surrey County Council, along with value engineering solutions on site from Beth and Chris in conjunction with design partner Monson Engineering, the job was finished inside the projected programme and on budget. A brilliant team effort.
