The project was to replace an existing highway structure that was in poor condition on a busy road, and included the following key operations:
- Construction of a temporary dam, including a flume to carry low flows of the watercourse.
- Installation of an overpumping system to deal with greater levels of water flow as required.
- Careful demolition of the existing structure and construction of a 6A granular base to site the new pre-cast culvert and wingwall units.
- Install the 28T culvert units using a 350T crane to lift each section into place.
- Backfill with a mixture of imported 6N and as-dug materials.
- Reconstruct the road to highway specification.
