This was a high profile project to replace a failing section of Southern Water’s key infrastructure, approx. 400m of 800mm dia. pumping main.
Given the sensitive nature of the area of excavation, we had to work closely with the Client to avoid any disruption to performance of its existing pipeline, as well as with archaeologists as the area was known to be of historical interest.
The works was entirely delivered by our direct labour and involved:
- Topsoil strip a 30m wide easement and set aside for re-use.
- Carry out a stepped excavation to a depth of 2.6m
- Install temporary works to allow safe access.
- Butt fuse 12m lengths of 800mm dia. SDR17 pipe.
- Lay 800mm dia. SDR17 pipe on a shingle bed and surround
- Install clay stanks every 25m to prevent ground water flow down the pipeline
- Excavate for the connections at both ends and work closely with Southern Water and other stakeholders / supply chain to make the connections.
- Backfill and reinstate the pipeline to return to arable farmland.
