Construction a new sewage treatment plant to replace the existing failing system serving both Herstmonceux Castle and Observatory, which is a Grade II listed property. Careful excavation was undertaken with archaeologists in attendance to ensure no damage was done to potential historic artefacts. The project consisted of the following:
- Locating the existing outfall and constructing a manhole over the discharge pipe for final connection to existing reed beds.
- Excavating a 16m x 12m x 3.5m deep cofferdam to keep out the high water table.
- Installation of 3 no. 13.5m x 2.5m Biodisc sewage treatment plants.
- Installation of a 16m long Balancing Tank that equally distributes the sewage to the three Biodiscs, units
- Fill the tanks slowly with “grey” water and backfill around them with mass concrete.
- Make connections to divert flows from and terminate flows to the existing system.
