The Great Pond is a large reservoir located in Sunninghill Park, Windsor. In November 2018, damage was found along the upstream face of the dam crest. It was agreed that remedial works would be required over three phases.

C.J. Thornes were appointed to carry out the third phase of the works which included:

  • Excavate to formation on the upstream face
  • Install a geotextile filter fabric on the upstream face
  • Import and install 150 – 300mm rip rap stone to slope

The rip rap stone was installed to form a sloped protection dam to deflect the reservoir from causing further damage to the access road / retaining wall.

The works was successfully completed on budget and ahead of programme with minimal disruption to the Crown Estate residents.
