Year of Project:2018
Project Value:£150,000
Duration:8 weeks

We were appointed to dismantle and remove the old (unsafe) timber footbridge structure and foundations and install a 22m long reinforced plastic bridge on new piled reinforced concrete abutments. The plastic bridge construction was the first to be installed in West Sussex.

We designed and built a sheet piled wall to protect the foundations, which were at risk of erosion from the fast flowing river – incorporating our temporary works in the permanent works solution – and mass filled behind the sheets with hard-core for filtration purposes. We then installed vegetated bag work at a higher level as a further – more aesthetically pleasing erosion control method.

Temporary track matting was laid to allow access across fields in the flood plain for plant and equipment and a bespoke crane mat designed and installed to allow the removal of the old bridge and installation of the new one.
