The project required urgent stabilisation works on the existing Coastguard Cottages sea defence structure. We removed the damaged steel sheet piles, timbers and rebuilt the sea defence.
We also re-cladded the damaged area with traditional Groyne timbers to suit the length of the existing timber piles.
We then backfilled behind the structure with a sand / shingle material matching the existing, and then rebuilt the interlocking Lego Concrete Block wall behind the timber piles, returning into the existing bankside.
This is a temporary solution pending agreement with Natural England and the Environment Agency on the construction of permanent coastal defences.
