The objective of this project was to reconstruct the embankment 25m either side of the Bregsells Lane bridge to alleviate cracking in the southbound carriageway of the A24. The key elements of the project were:

  • Construction of crossovers to divert traffic onto northbound carriageway
  • Investigation of blocked 3m deep drainage, and effect repairs
  • Excavation and removal of failed material in embankment
  • Reconstruct embankment in terraced layers with compacted recycled Type 1
  • Spread topsoil over newly reconstructed embankment and seed
  • Plane off 305mm of existing surface in the southbound carriageway
  • Lay 200mm of AC32 base, 60mm of AC20 binder and 45mm of HRA
  • Erect VRS and post & rail fencing.

Thorne was chosen for this project for its ability to offer a “One-Stop-Shop”, with all activities undertaken by our directly employed labour and using in-house plant.
