Paramount Entertainment

Description

Construction of steel framed ‘Brighton Wheel’ ride adjacent to one of Brighton’s busiest beaches.

Large concrete bases were built inside the restricted space of the old arcade and the steel towers then erected to transfer the leg loads from the wheel itself to ground, with the bases on the beach having to be piled through 20m of beach shingle.
The Wheel was erected by a team of Australian specialists, operating under our supervision as Principle Contractor.

Kings Road Arches Reconstruction – Phase 1

Client

Brighton & Hove City Council

Description

Demolition and reconstruction of 26 Victorian brick arches on Hove seafront. Whilst the new structure is an RC portal frame on piled foundations, great care has been taken to replicate faithfully the Victorian brickwork façade, and the project has been recognised for its innovation and sustainability by the Institution of Civil Engineers in its regional awards ceremony.

New cast iron railings and refurbishment of the existing shelter were also included in the scope, as was 1000m2 of block paving and a further 1000m2 of tarmac surfacing.

The project won the 2015 Sussex Heritage Award for a commercial development.
