Client

National Cat Centre

Description

Improvement to parking and safety, with the work split into a number of discrete areas, each of which had to be completed before the work could begin elsewhere.

For the Lower Car Park (Picture 1) the team had to lay a ‘No Dig’ tree protection system and fill with graded stone to form a permeable sub-base before the permeable surfacing was laid. This is an ideal solution for tree sensitive areas where traditional construction methods are not permitted.

The Lower Car Park was then marked up and ready to be used (Picture 2). The permeable solution was specified as part of the planning process and removes the need for any additional drainage to be installed.

The new retaining wall (Picture 3) was installed along the access road to the National Cat Centre. This was a bespoke wall and guard rail and has now enabled the widening of the road and improved the sight lines for visitors to the centre.

Forest Row Bridleway

Client

East Sussex County Council

Description

Reinstatement of the existing Bridleway through Wetwood which connects Hammerwood to Forest Row.

The work included skimming off the top layer of mud and leaves on the Bridleway then laying down a hardcore base with type 1 limestone over the top. Some of the ditches along the way were renewed and drainage was installed along a section of the bridle way to as this section does get extremely wet during the winter months.

The work will now allow much better use of the bridle way throughout the year.

Church Acre Bridge

Church Acre Bridge

Client

East Sussex County Council

Description

Church Acre bridge is listed and located across one of the many drainage channels criss-crossing the Pevensey Marshes, a triple SSI site.

The bridges on the marshes were originally the responsibility of the Environment Agency but they recently passed into the care of East Sussex County Council.  The Council have instigated a programme of inspecting and repairing as necessary the many bridges on the marsh.

Church Acre bridge required extensive repairs and strengthening to the brick arch brickwork, re-pointing, and the installation of sheet pile training walls to each side of the bridge aprons.  The parapet was also increased in height to comply with present day regulations and new copings installed.  The bridge is now in a fit state for the 21st Century.
