Work was completed this week on a Design & Build project to reconstruct the partially collapsed Twyford Lane ford for ESCC Highways division.

The project involved working closely with their Structures team to assess the extent of the collapse and plan the safe removal of the defective material, maintaining strict environmental controls to prevent any pollution downstream.

The original footbridge had to be demolished, and we constructed the replacement bridge in our Uckfield fabrication workshop. The reinforced concrete spillway was then reconstructed on a base of concrete sandbags, which were also used to stabilise the embankments on both sides of the stream.

In addition, the client decided to take advantage of the road closure to undertake improvements to the road surface, which we were able to complete with our own in-house tarmac paving team.

An excellent project, so huge congratulations to the site team for delivering in what was at times a challenging environment.
