B&HCC Coastal Defences Retained

This month the Company was awarded Brighton & Hove City Council’s 4 year term contract for the Maintenance of Coastal & Highway Structures.
The contract will be headed up by Guy Davidson, who has led the scheme since we first won the contract in 2008.

Celebrations at Mountfield

On Thursday 15th October key representatives of C J Thorne & Co were invited to the celebration of Saint-Gobain’s 350th birthday at the British Gypsum works in Mountfield.

Contracts Manager Peter Tapsfield and gifted plant operator Stephen Berndt were feted for the input Thornes had in the restoration works as part of the Clients environmental commitment to the site.

Kenley Culvert – Flood Defences

Earlier this month work got underway on the essential flood resilience project for the Sutton & East Surrey Water Company. The scheme involves the installation of a new 900mm diameter DI culvert to deal with storm surcharging, and connecting into the existing drainage system.

2015 Sussex Heritage Awards

C J Thorne & Co this week won the prestigious Commercial Award for the Kings Road Arches Scheme in Brighton. The project involved the reconstruction of 26 arches (built circa 1880) where the walls and foundations were failing due to subsidence, with the deck suffering severe surface fragmentation. The finished construction is sympathetic with the Victorian architecture and provides a vibrant new artists’ quarter.
